Ready for Winter?

Preparing a home for the cold damp winter months is critical for annual maintenance, the home's longevity and protecting your investment.  It is important to spend a little time preparing so that the cold temperatures don't become costly.
  • To protect pipes from freezing, one tip is to close all foundation vents.  For severe cold, insulated covers are available at your local hardware store.
  • To protect your outside hose bibs, insulated foam faucet covers are also available for purchase at your local hardware store for a few dollars each.  A small investment that could save you hundreds.
  • If you have a well, it is recommended that the well head and pressure tank are insulated to protect from the severe of freezing temperatures.
  • If you have not already done so, now is the time to shut off and drain your irrigation system.
  • It is recommended that you check to ensure that there are no exposed pipes under your house.  If unprotected, the pipes should be insulated with pipe wrap.
  • Inspect your roof.  If moss is present, remove heavy build-up and apply moss treatment for removal.
By following these tips you can help prevent pipes, irrigation systems and your well from freezing and costly damage.
